This is a computer based, closed-book exam on the ethics, obligations, and legal concepts that are part of practicing as a professional engineer. The Engineers Canada guideline Admission to the Practice of Engineering in Canada, states that, "applicants for licensure are required to pass an examination to confirm that they have sufficient knowledge of the ethical consideration and obligations that accompany the privileges of professional status, and the legal concepts relevant to professional engineering practice" before they can become licensed as professional engineers in Canada.  It is recommended that you have 24 months of engineering experience before you take this exam.  Answers to frequently asked questions concerning the NPPE Computer Based Testing can be found here - FAQ

COVID-19 Update:

The NPPE continues to be administered online during the scheduled dates in 2020, but due to public health restrictions, exam administrations have all been moved to remote proctoring until further notice. Remote proctoring allows candidates to take the NPPE in their home in a secure environment using a stable, high speed internet connection and webcam. All candidates who register to take the NPPE in upcoming sessions will receive further instructions by email on how to take the exam remotely. If you have any questions, please contact NPPE@engineersnovascotia.ca.

Only Members or Applicants with a registration number may apply to take the NPPE.   You will need to login to your Engineers Nova Scotia account to register for the NPPE prior to the deadline for applications.   If your registration is successful, you will receive a confirmation email from Engineers Nova Scotia.  Refer to the NPPE Registration Process for more details on registering for the NPPE.

Application deadlines for the Exam and Workshop are FIRM.  Register early to avoid last minute login issues and ensure your seat.

Cancelling & Rescheduling Cancellations or deferrals may be made four weeks (20 working days) prior to the exam administration date.  Please refer to the Schedule of Exam and Workshop dates above for cancellation dates.

Cancellations made within four weeks (20 working days) of the exam administration date will not be refundable, candidates will be treated as no show/absent for the exam and the association will be invoiced for their exam.
