CPD Evaluation (Survey) Results
A member evaluation (survey) was completed by members in November, 2011. The evaluation was sent to 3,228 members, and 895 responded (27.8% response rate). The feedback will be very valuable in strengthening the CPD program for members. A summary of the results is available here.
CPD Program Details
Section 5 of the Engineering Profession Act indicates that the objectives of Engineers Nova Scotia specifically include “to assure the general public of the proficiency and competency of professional engineers in the practice of engineering”. Professional engineers are required to maintain their competence in those areas in which they practice. The Engineering Profession Act & By-Laws can be found by clicking here.
Under the CPD program, members will continue to be responsible for their own professional development activities. Members are required to certify (by checking a box electronically on their member profile or another method) that they are in compliance with the CPD policy, and will only practice in areas of competence. Members who wish to keep professional development records for their own purposes can do so; however the association does not require copies of these records unless needed for disciplinary or audit purposes.
Consistent with past communications to the members by Council, the following groups of members shall be exempt from the program.
o Life and Honorary Life members
o Retired Non-practicing members
o Parental leave and unemployed members (while not practicing).
The program commenced in January 2011, and corresponds to the yearly billing cycle. For 2012, invoices were sent to members starting mid-November, 2011. Members with a valid e-mail address on file receive their invoice notification by e-mail; those without an e-mail address on file receive theirs by paper. Instructions for logging on to the “Member Dashboard” section of our website are contained in the invoice notification e-mail. Payment can now be made electronically through the website and a receipt will be available online immediately following payment.
